Nutrition is vital to a healthy mind, body and spirit. Nutrition is at the crux of traditional Chinese Medicine. Although life would be simpler if there was one right food for all animals, that simply is not the case. The animals have age, breed, life style and most importantly constitutional differences which play a major role in determining the proper diet. Just as important are the owner’s financial, time and philosophical considerations. There are many different types of foods out there: homemade raw and commercial raw, home cooked, dehydrated, freeze dried to canned and kibble. The proper diet can make the difference between a chronically sick pet and a healthy one.
Makai is an 8 year old German shepherd who has had allergies for many years. Her itch had been worsening and Makai’s mom did not want to give her prednisone all her life. Herbal therapies and homeopathies helped slightly and transiently but the itch never disappeared until her diet was switched to a raw salmon food. Within the week her itch had disappeared. Due to her mom’s preferences for a kibble she was carefully chosen the appropriate kibble and her itching has remained non existent. Thanks to the proper food, Makai is finally comfortable in her own skin.
